About Bullion Direct

The buying experience with Bullion Direct is quite a bit different than it is with many of the other dealers. For starters, getting even some of the most basic information requires creating an account. You cannot call the company – the website states that all calls placed to its non-toll free line will be sent to voicemail, where you can leave a message which will be transcribed and sent as an email to the appropriate department at the company. To mitigate this, however, you can do a live chat with a company representative to get answers to any questions that might arise. And, while many of the company’s policies and procedures are a little confusing and somewhat unusual, the company’s strong industry presence, its history and its ratings lead us to believe that this is a company worthy of serious consideration if you’re looking to buy gold or silver.

The company provides 2 ways to buy and sell precious metals products – through its catalog, where the prices are pretty nice, and through its “Nucleo Exchange” – a patented platform whereby customers can buy and sell from one another using Bullion Direct as a trusted middleman, where prices are amongst the best we’ve seen. On Nucleo, buy and sell orders are listed and, when bid and ask prices clear, orders are created. This innovative system can save a customer quite a bit when buying bullion, but there are still counterparty risks, most notably in the condition of the products, so we advise the use of caution and due diligence when using this system. And since we’ve had some rather frustrating difficulties using even just the standard Bullion Direct site, we recommend spending some time playing around with the Nucleo Exchange interface to decide if it’s right for you.

The company’s catalog is just about the right size for us. The choices are not overly extensive, but the variety is there so a buyer has some leeway in what he or she buys. There are not a lot of numismatic or graded coins on the site, which we consider to be a plus. And, for the serious bargain hunter, the site also provides many options to buy miscellaneous unspecified bars or rounds in unspecified condition, allowing for some really great pricing.

Bullion Direct is a Better Business Bureau accredited business. The company saw 7 complaints reported to the Better Business Bureau in the 3 years leading up to this writing (November 2014), a low number for a company of this size. All complaints were resolved by Bullion Direct, according to the Better Business Bureau.
