About APMEX

APMEX (American Precious Metals Exchange) is one of the largest precious metals dealers in the US, with an extensive catalog and a solid reputation for being one of the most stable companies in the industry. Many stackers turn to APMEX as their sole provider for bullion products.

APMEX carries a wide array of new bullion products, secondary market bullion products, semi-numismatics and some numismatic coins. The result is a catalog that is expansive, though not always the easiest to navigate through. Some stackers prefer such a large catalog, while others prefer the more “curated” catalogs (as well as the somewhat lower prices) of dealers such as JM Bullion or CB Mint. To mitigate this “paradox of choice,” however, APMEX does provide a pretty handy list of its top 40 products, so stackers who are unsure of what to buy can choose products that the market recognizes and prefers.

APMEX’s prices are often not the best prices you can find. This is not to say that they are completely out of line with industry norms, but better pricing on different products can generally be found with some small and midsize dealers. Some bullion investors choose to pay higher prices at APMEX because in their estimation, APMEX’s perceived stability, its history and its reputation outweigh the premium the company gets for their products over some other dealers.

APMEX saw 46 complaints reported to the Better Business Bureau in the 3 years leading up to this writing (November 2014), a pretty low number for a company of this size. All complaints were resolved by APMEX, according to the Better Business Bureau.
